A soccer team full of hot chicks

Posted by Belushi on May 30, 2008

I think this is an idea that could work, I would watch a match featuring these lovely ladies.  Heck the idea might even be so good that it could cheer up poor John Terry, who blew the UEFA Cup for Chelsea a week ago.

Ronaldo hooking up with trannies

Posted by Belushi on April 29, 2008

A funny storysurfaced about international soccer star, Ronaldo, hooking up with a couple of transvestites.  Apparently he didn’t realize the chicks were she-males, but they knew who Ronaldo was.  Because the dudes tried to extort Ronaldo to keep the story out of the press.  I guess that plan, keeping it out of the press, didn’t work.

My biggest reaction to this story had nothing to do with the trannies, because I hear they are quite deceptive in Brazil.  I was more shocked at how much Ronaldo has let himself go.  Ronaldo always had funky hair, but what the fuck is he thinking these days.

Tennis superstar + hack golfer = love?

Posted by Belushi on April 11, 2008

ESPN.com had a column about Trip Kuehne’s last time playing the Masters.  The column, by Gene “Prone to Sensationalism” Wojciechowski, was a trip down memory lane to a time when Trip lost to Tiger Woods in the US Amateur.

But it wasn’t the part about Trip or Tiger that caught my attention.  What made me say ‘what?’ was reading that Venus Williams was in Trip’s gallery.  So now I’m confused why a Wimblendon is following around an amateur golfer.  Did Venue get lost trying to find Ernie or Phil’s group?  Did Trip win one of those ‘hang with a star for a day’ that Make-A-Wish does?  Did Venus forget her glasses and think “Trip Kuehne” said “Tiger Woods”?

The story reveals that Venus is there with Trip’s brother, Hank Kuehne.  Hank’s a professional golfer who has yet to make hay on the Nationwide Tour.  So I’m thinking that maybe Hank retired from golf and is persuing a career as a sports agent.  Maybe he’s trying to woo Venue to be one of his clients.  Wrong again.

Turns out Hank Kuehne and Venus Williams are an item.  They’ve been dating for some time, and purportedly (Wikipedia) got engaged in January.  I was a bit surprised by this discovery.  Not because he’s white and she’s black, that’s not an issue.  But because she’s a superstar athlete and he’s just a regular athlete, and “regular” might be stretching it if he doesn’t win a few Nationwide events soon.

Is there anything wrong with an attractive female, megastar tennis player dating a Q School regular?  No, but I guess I figured Venue would have her pick of top-shelf athletes and celebrities.  After all her sister, Serena, dated NBA-star Chris Webber, mega-producer Brett Ratner and rapper Common.  So I just assumed big sis Venus would have a bigger name boyfriend/fiance/husband.

Nothing against Hank, I’m sure he’s a fantastic guy (although I think Coach takes him with 2 a side).  I guess it just proves that relationships are hard to predict.  So now I must wish Hank & Venus success in their marriage & life.

Delays in Stadium Construction for 2010 World Cup?

Posted by Belushi on November 16, 2007

It’s starting… The wheels of what I was predicting (USA Hosting the 2010 World Cup) months ago are starting to spin faster. Sports Illustrated is reporting workers in South Africa, who are building the World Cup stadiums, are threatening to strike.

Chelsea FC Coming to America

Posted by Belushi on November 8, 2007

Wait…make that Chelsea FC Has Come to America.

Chelsea FC logo

It started with a four straight years of preseason tours and soccer friendlies in the US. And now Chelsea FC has launched a web site for US fans of the team. The site has club info, player profiles, sells merchandise, offers fan message boards and more. It also has a “member map” so fans of Chelsea in the USA can chart their location.

Chelsea is the first EPL club to launch an officially sanctioned soccer site in the USA. They are becoming the New York Yankees of the EPL.

Coach- you need to sign up to win tickets to a game, during your trip to the UK.

Most Intimidating Venues in World of Sports

Posted by Belushi on October 31, 2007

So what are the toughest sporting event venues in the World to play at?

Tim Yu from Bleacher Report lists the toughest venues as these:
1. Estadio Alberto J. Armando (aka: La Bombonera) in Buenos Aires, Argetina. (Soccer stadium)
2. Ali Sami Yen Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. (Soccer stadium)
3. Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. (Football stadium)
4. Eden Gardens in India. (Cricket)
5. Estadio do Maracana in Rio, Brazil. (Soccer)
6. Centenario Stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay. (Soccer)
7. Maksimir Stadium in Croatia. (Soccer)
8. Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow, Scotland. (Soccer)
9. Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. (Football)
10. Yankee Stadium in New York, NY. (Baseball)

I’m not surprised at all that soccer stadiums dominate the list. The passion in soccer is unmatched in practically any other sport. Although I’m surprised that Azteca Stadium in Mexico City was not included on the list. Not only does the altitude there make it a difficult place to play, but the people in the stands are extremely loud and rowdy. When the US Soccer Team played there, during Cup Qualifying, a few years ago - the locker room was shaking from all of the energy in the stadium.

I think Tiger Stadium is a fantastic environment for college football. It’s rich in tailgating, and a night game there brings out the passions of the LSU faithful. But I’m not convinced that it’s any more feverish than a night game at Williams Brice Stadium in South Carolina, or a night game at Ohio Stadium for Ohio State.

Furthermore, I definitely disagree with the inclusion of Lambeau Stadium over Lincoln Financial Field or Heinz Field. Yes, Lambeau is one of the legendary stadiums in the NFL. But I don’t think it’s as intimidating as the home field of the Eagles or Steelers. The fans in Philly are a breed of their own. If the Eagles still played their home games at Veterans Stadium, instead of the Linc, I would say that should be top 3 on the list. Not only did the boo Michael Irvin when he was catered off on a stretcher, they booed Santa Claus. That place was insane.

No comment on Yankee Stadium. Like Giants Stadium, I think it’s the people at Yankee Stadium that make it a tough place to play. The New Yorkers have a special way of showing their feelings…and sharing the love. Here’s a quick video of the nice, kind & gentle New York Yankee fans making a couple of guys feel right at home.

Those Yankees fans are like school on Sunday…

For more insanity, read the Sporting News list of the ‘Toughest places to play in the SEC’. Still on my list of “To Do’s” to get to a game at an SEC stadium.

I think the most intimidating venue that I’ve been in for a sporting event was probably a college football game at College Stadium versus Texas A&M or at the Cotton Bowl for Texas/OU.

What is the most initimidating venue that you have watched a game at?

Best Soccer Lineup in the World?

Posted by Belushi on October 25, 2007

I’m trying to figure out what plays a bigger role in winning - chemistry or star power?

If one rich team (e.g.- Chelsea) were able to assemble a lineup that consisted of the biggest stars in soccer today, how do you think they would fare against International competition? Assuming they were given 6 months to practice together. Do you think they could beat National Team squads from France, Italy, Germany, England, etc?

Here is the lineup (you pick who starts & who subs):
G- Buffon, Cech
D- Sergio Ramos, C. Puyol, Diarra, J. Terry, Zanetti, Nesta
M- Ronaldinho, C. Ronaldo, Kaka, Essien, Gerrard, Totti, Lampard, Pirlo
F- Eto, Tevez, Messi, Rooney, Henry

I think you could mix & match that lineup enough (and soothe enough egos) that they consistently beat any teams in the World (National or club). I think if they played the 10 toughest teams they could match up with, they’d finish 8-0-2.

What do you think?

Heather Mitts is a Soccer Hottie

Posted by Belushi on October 11, 2007

The recent Women’s World Cup got me thinking about which female soccer player is the most attractive. I think Hope Solo, the Team USA goalie who was surrounded by controversy, has great potential. I also thought Kelly Smith from the English national team was pretty good looking. And I thought Norway had a couple of certifiable hotties in Marie Knutsen and Melissa Wiik. Check out this link to see some action shots of Norway’s Knutsen & Wiik. Both rate extremely high for me.

But who’s the hottest female soccer player? The best looking female soccer player is Heather Mitts. Mitts is the 29 year old US soccer player, who didn’t participate in the 2007 Women’s World Cup due to injury. She played for the Philadelphia WUSA team. Has recently been doing sideline reporting for ESPN. And dated quarterback AJ Feeley and slugger Pat Burrell in the past. Currently she’s rumored (aka: Wikipedia) to be dating tennis player James Blake.

What makes Heather Mitts so good looking? She’s an attractive blonde with a great body, that she likes to show off. Here are some great photos of Heather Mitts.

So on a scale of 1 to 10 where do you rate Heather Mitts as a hottie? For me, because she’s an athlete who plays at a very high-level, yet still looks so good…she’s a 7.5.

Ronaldinho Playing for Chelsea?

Posted by Belushi on September 26, 2007

According to the London Telegraph, Brazilian soccer star Ronaldinho’s brother has been talking to Chelsea FC. The report says that there have been two meetings between Chelsea’s owner, Roman Abramovich, and Ronaldinho’s people. The conversations are about Ronahldinho moving over to play for the English Premiere League giant.

It’s reported that Abramovich made an offer to make Ronaldinho the highest paid soccer player in Europe. And the offer would have to be considerable as Ronaldinho’s current contract with Barcelona has an $171 Million dollar buyout. And the contract to Ronaldinho would need to exceed the $260K per week that Chelsea is already paying defender John Terry.

Wow, that’s some serious money. Hard to see a deal coming together when the numbers are so high. You could get a nosebleed just thinking about the amount of money that would change hands. But Abramovich is a billionaire, and has always spent lavishly to attract the best soccer talent to Chelsea. So I guess anything is possible.

My prediction: This is all just smoke and mirrors, and Ronaldinho stays with Barca. The EPL transfer deadline is Friday, and I can’t see a deal this large going down in the next 48 hours, even if they have already met twice.

Why is this man smiling?
You would be too if you already earned $32 Million dollars per year…and might be about to get an even BIGGER contract.
