Week 13 NFL Picks

Posted by Coach on November 30, 2007

I hope everyone is paying attention out there.  Because I’m moving to Vegas very soon.  Coach went 15-1 on his totals last week.   You read that right:  15-1.  Think about that for a second.  Or longer.  That is insane.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy the Greek exhumed himself to congratulate me.  9-7 on the sides – overall I’m 187-146-15 for the season.  Playing $100 a game, you’d be up roughly $2500.  Just for listening to me and watching football.  It’s really very simple.  To quote Carl Spackler, I have to laugh.

I did miss another golden lock.  But only by 20 points or so.  Whatever.

Also, I forgot to post before the Cowboys/Packers last night.  I think it’s fair to push both sides.  Actually, I’ve been better than .500 this season, so I’m doing the book a favor.  As far as they know.  The picks…

Atlanta +3 at St. Louis – 40.5 – Over

That’s right, look away.

Buffalo +5.5 at Washington (37) – Over

I don’t love Buffalo.  I don’t care for this game.  But I’m here to serve.

Detroit at Minnesota -3 (45) – Under

Minnesota is sneaking up on people.  Decent defense, good O-line.  Detroit is finally playing like Detroit.  This one’s simple.

Houston +3.5 at Vince and the Titans (42.5) – Under

Loyal readers know my theory on Vince as a dog vs. Vince as a favorite.  Sadly, that might be out the window.  Vince hasn’t been good on either side, lately.  Haynesworth is back.  He should clog it up and make this one go comfortably under.

Jacksonville +7 at Indy (45) – Under

Nobody except New England should give that many to Jacksonville right now.  They’ve got the whole mission from God thing going.  Indy is banged up and living off last year’s reputation.  Play what you want to win.

Jets -1 at Miami (38) – Under

New low for the Jets?  Catching points from an 0-11 team?  Yikes.

Chargers at KC +6 (37.5) – Over

Play both sides with confidence.

Seattle +3 at Philly (42) – Over

McNabb will get pelted by snowball covered battery.  This much I know.  If it’s a clean enough hit and he has to leave the game, Feeley might ruin this pick for me.

San Fran +3 at Carolina (35.5) – Under

This is not the Caroline/a Neil Diamond had in mind.  What’s the opposite of sweet?

Cleveland +1 at Arizona (52) – Over

This line confuses me.  I’d make it my golden lock, but it seems too obvious.  If you asked me to guess this line before it came out, I’d say Cleveland by four or so.  Strange days, indeed.

Denver at Oakland +3.5 (42) -Under

This one is tough.  I don’t think Denver’s that bad.  I don’t think Oakland is that bad.  Make sense?

Tampa Bay +3  at New Orleans (42) – Under

New Orleans stinks.  Tampa, with or without Garcia, does not.

Giants -1.5 at Chicago (41) – Over

Bears are frauds.  They had no business winning last week.  I don’t think Hester will touch the ball Sunday.  Unless he picks off Eli.  So maybe he will touch it.

Cincy +7 at Pitt (45) – Under

Coach’s moneyline special of the week.  Cincy is gonna come on strong down the stretch.

New England -20.5 at Baltimore (50) – Over

I can’t help it.  I’m sorry.  I can’t.

Does Jessica Simpson Miss Nick Lachey?

Posted by Belushi on November 29, 2007

Ok, ok…I’m not the reside expert on celebrity gossip. That is Bond’s department. But I heard on the radio this morning that it’s being “reported in Hollywood” that Jessica Simpson misses her ex-husband Nick Lachey. Supposedly friends of Jessica Simpson have been telling gossip magazine that Jessica was sad on what would have been their 5th wedding anniversary. Supposedly she still cares about Nick, etc, etc, etc.

My point to all this. If you are Nick Lachey, don’t you have to ask your new girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo how she feels about a little girl on girl on guy scenario. I mean sure Nick’s already “had” Jessica, but she’s still Jessica Simpson. No, she’s still Jessica “I’m f’ing hot” Simpson. She’d be a well I’d never grow tired of going back to.

If they do have a threesome, I hope the pictures make it out to the internet. I’m picturing something along the lines of the threesome in the movie Wild Things between Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell and Denise Richards.

Some pictures of Minnillo and Simpson:

Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson has still got it.

Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson better be careful she doesn’t lose a boob.

Vanessa Minnillo
Nick Lachey’s new lady, Vanessa Minnillo.

Vanessa Minnillo
She’s in a pool…how many other chicks look this good in the same situation.

Wild Things movie
A little reminder of Wild Things. I though Neve and Denise both gave Oscar worthy performances.

Week 12 NFL Picks

Posted by Coach on November 21, 2007

Unfortunately, more treading water last week.  15-16-1 – for the season:  163-138-15.  And the golden lock missed again.  You have my sincere apologies.  Shame on me for not locking up the Pats.

The picks…

Green Bay -3 at Detroit (47) – Over

Seems dangerous to go against Mr. Favre right now.  He very well may be on a mission from God.

Jets +14 at Dallas (47.5) – Under

Almost want to make this the golden lock.  Dallas didn’t look convincing last week.

Indy -11.5 at Atlanta (41) – Over

I really want to play Atlanta.  But I can’t do it.  Indy’s due to roll someone.

Buffalo +7.5 at Jax (36) – Over

This one looks simple.  I’m not sold on Jacksonville and the Pats make everyone look silly.

Houston at Cleveland -3.5 (51) – Under

I think I’ve been wrong on the Browns total six straight weeks.  This feels like a sucker bet.  But I’ve promised to ride the Browns until they don’t cover.  I enjoyed the funky field goal last week.

Vikings at Giants -7.5 (41) – Over

The Giants are good.  And I have no clue about the Vikings.  The right play might be to moneyline Minnesota and bet the Giants.  Sweet spot ‘em.  No locks here.

New Orleans -3 at Carolina (41) – Under

Drew Brees, you’re killing me.  And I keep betting on you.  And I keep starting you.

Oakland +5.5 at KC (34.5) – Over

Two crummy teams.  Take the points.  But not with confidence.

Seattle at St. Louis +3 (45) – Under

Trap game.

Vince and the Titans +1 at Cincy (47) – Under

Come on, Vince.  Make me proud.

Washington at Tampa Bay -3 (38) – Under

Flip a coin.

San Fran +10.5 at Arizona (38) – Over

This one is simple.  Arizona should never give double digits.

Denver at Chicago -1.5 (41.5) – Under

Flip a coin.  Again.  Not a clue.

Ravens +9.5 at San Diego (38.5) – Over

Go figure on the Chargers.  Norv’s not doing so well and struggling teams shouldn’t give double digits.  The Ravens are in trouble, but they’ll keep it close.

Philly at New England -22  (51) – Over

Never, in all my years, seen a line like this in the NFL.  Just wait til they play Miami at home.

Miami +16 at Pitt (41) – Under

Yikes.  Don’t love Miami.  But their defense is decent.

Week 11 NFL Picks

Posted by Coach on November 16, 2007

So so last week, 14-13-1.  Ate a little juice.  No sweat.  Sadly, the golden lock didn’t hit.  But I only missed it by 28 points.  Remember, if you’re gonna be a bear, be a grizzly.  If you’re gonna lose a bet, get rolled.  Season total:  148-122-14

No more bye weeks.  Lots of games.  Lots of fun.  Lots of cash.

Arizona at Cincy -3 (48) – Under

Cincy has good cover potential coming down the stretch.  Arizona is Arizona.  And they’ve been Arizona forever.

Carolina +10 at Green Bay (37.5) – Over

Damn you, Brett Favre.  Cost me a golden lock.  This is actually getting exciting for even the crustiest of gamblers.  If the Pack can actually establish a running game, they’ve got a shot at getting beat by New England in the Superbowl.  Why play Carolina?  I have no clue.

Cleveland +2 at Baltimore (43.5) – Under

Cleveland proved they’re for real last week, even though they lost.  Baltimore’s offense is god awful.  McNair is out.  Which might actually help.  One of these days Cleveland is going under.  Derek Anderson is half of my fantasy headache.

KC +14.5 at Indy (44.5) – Under

Coach is a sucker for big dogs and under big totals.  Good, no, great to see Priest back and healthy.  The loss to San Diego last week was an absolute fluke for Indy.  But KC’s defense is sneaky decent.

Miami +10 at Philly (40) – Under

Yuck.  Go figure on Philly.  I know Miami stinks, but their defense is not awful and they’ve stayed close with a few teams.  This is far from the golden lock.  Though, after last week, that might be a good thing.

New Orleans pick em at Houston (47) – Under

This is interesting.  Sucker bet?  Brees gives Coach the other half of his fantasy headache.

Oakland +5 at Minnesota (35.5) – Under

Peterson is out.  This line confuses me.  The Raiders stay with people.  Then they lose.  But not by much.  By the way, here’s the NFL in a nutshell:  Two weeks ago, Minnesota blows out San Diego and Indy nearly beats the juggernaut that is New England.  Last week San Diego beats Indy and Green Bay shuts out Minnesota.  You figure it out.

San Diego +3 at Jacksonville (41) – Over

Beats me.  No, really.  Beats me.  See above.

Tampa Bay -3 at Atlanta (35) – Over

This week’s:  Look away, this game is hideous.  Don’t bet either side with confidence.

Giants +2.5 at Detroit (49) – Over

Opened at pick ‘em.  Go figure on Detroit, too.  I don’t know.  This is tough.  If everyone’s loading up one way, Vegas is happy.  When Vegas is happy, you’re not.  Be careful.

Pittsburgh +9 at Jets (40.5) – Under

This one could be ugly.

Washington +11 at Dallas (47) – Under

Backdoor special of the week.

St. Louis at San Francisco +3 (40) – Under

Check that, this wins the look away this game is hideous award this week.  I guess take the points.

Chicago +6 at Seattle (37.5) – Over

Total seems low.  I guess one of the problems with no byes is there seem to be a lot of crummy/average games.

New England -16 at Buffalo (46.5) – Over

Hop back on.  Don’t be afraid.

Vince and the Titans +3  at Denver (38) – Over

Coach’s dream come true.  Vince catching points on Monday night.  Way too simple.

Delays in Stadium Construction for 2010 World Cup?

Posted by Belushi on November 16, 2007

It’s starting… The wheels of what I was predicting (USA Hosting the 2010 World Cup) months ago are starting to spin faster. Sports Illustrated is reporting workers in South Africa, who are building the World Cup stadiums, are threatening to strike.

Poop for cash…

Posted by JamesBond on November 13, 2007

Remember back in college when you considered subjecting your body to anything, just to make a few bucks. Donate plasma, donate sperm, or maybe take a few pills for 6 weeks.

Check out this new study being sponsored by the Environmental Studies Department at Oberlin College…click here.  There’s even a party at the end.

This is a clean blog, so I won’t get into details.  See for yourself.

I’ve got lots of fraternity brothers that would have tried to get rich off this thing.

Phil Fulmer should have no problem signing the country’s #1 recruiting class…

Posted by JamesBond on November 12, 2007

vols.jpg

Last week, police arrived at Tennessee center Josh McNeil’s apartment to question him about a broken window, and possible burglary.

Unfortunately for him, it was a case of very bad timing.

You see, he was in bed with three women at the time. Three! And we’re not talking about the quarterback. The freaking center!

What the hell was Peyton Manning pulling down back in his day?

How big is this guy’s bed? I assume he’s a pretty big dude himself. It seems a little crowded to me, but I’m sure he wasn’t complaining.

According to the report, all four were heavily intoxicated, and though McNeil is 21, each of the three girls was cited for underage drinking.

Supposedly there are pictures of all three girls floating around out there, and rumor has it they’re each students at Virginia Tech.

I guess smart girls need love too.

NFL Week 10 Picks

Posted by Coach on November 10, 2007

Yet another solid week.  8-6 on sides, 10-4 on totals.  Up over a grand for the year – 134-109-13.  Not bad.  Alas, the golden lock missed for only the second time this year.  Thanks to the refs.  The game of the century bored Coach a little bit.  Let’s keep stacking cheese…

 Buffal0 -3 at Miami (41) – Under

I’ve been riding the Bills.  You should too.  Miami is awful.  Awful, awful.

Cleveland +10.5 at Pittsburgh (47) – Under

Simple.  Trust Romeo and the Browns.

Denver +3 at KC (37.5) – Over

The return of my beloved Priest!  Chiefs win by two.

Jacksonville vs. Vince and the Titans -4 (35) – Over

Toughest game to call.

Minnesota +6.5  at Green Bay (40.5) - Over

I’m smoking the Peterson crack.  Can’t get enough.

Philly at Washington -3 (38) – Over

Washington is good.  Philly’s in shambles.  And it’s not McNabb’s fault.

St. Louis at New Orleans -11 (45) – Under

Rams = Dolphins

Atlanta +4.5 at Carolina (36) – Under

Both teams stink.  Take the points.

Cincy +4.5 at Baltimore (44.5) – Under

I don’t love Cincy, but I love the under.

Chicago at Oakland +3.5 (38) – Under

Raiders are a good dog.

Dallas -1 at Giants (49) – Under

Not sold on the Giants.

Detroit pick ‘em at Arizona (45) – Under

This is almost my golden lock, but it smells like a sucker bet.

Indy -3.5 at San Diego (48.5) – Under

Indy’s very good at football.

San Francisco +10 at Seattle (38.5) – Over

Crappy Monday night game.

Does Endorsing Pepsi Make You Crazy?

Posted by Belushi on November 9, 2007

Pepsi Logo

Let me start by saying I think Pepsi Cola makes a fine product. I prefer Dr. Pepper myself. But I do love Gatorade (Pepsico product), so I do support the company. I say that because I don’t want any of the Pepsi people on my ass.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s delve into what I’m calling my “Pepsi Theory”. The question at the heart of the Pepsi Theory is: Does endorsing Pepsi cola make you a crazy?

First, let’s take a look at who has endorsed Pepsi over the last 20 years. The stars who have signed up to endorse Pepsi is a “who’s who” of big names in the music & entertainment industry. Since there were so many I decided to break it down into a few categories of crazy:

Only slighty eccentric, but not outwardly crazy (yet):
David Beckham – promoted Pepsi in the UK.
Aretha Franklin – worked for Pepsi in 1998.
Jennifer Lopez - I think she’s probably hiding her crazy.
Cindy Crawford - If they don’t hire crazy, Pepsi likes to hire hot chicks.
Halle Berry – See what I mean. They should have stuck with hotties.
Jimmy Fallon – Not crazy, just awkward.
Christina Aguilera – Probably not crazy, but she is a turncoat. She used to endorse for Coca Cola.
Beyonce - Pepsi played the ‘crazy odds’ with chick pop stars. Beyonce? No. Christina? No. Pink? Probably. Britney? Hell yes.

Definitely a bit “off” (aka: very eccentric or a little crazy)
Tina Turner – Sang “We’ve Got The Taste” for Pepsi in 1986.
* Why crazy? She did fall in love with Ike at one point, so that’s gotta tell you something.

Jeff Gordon - Nascar star has even endorsed Pepsi on his car.
* Why crazy? Have you seen what he does for a living? He drives a car 200 mph around a little oval track.

Pink - Has endorsed Pepsi in recent years.
* Why crazy? Check out her tats or watch one of her videos and you’ll figure it out pretty quick.

Diddy - Endoresed Pepsi as Puff Daddy and P Diddy.
* Why crazy? I don’t want Diddy to off me, so I think it’s prudent to stay mum on this one.

Janet Jackson – The voice of the “Rhythm Nation” was also a voice for Pepsi Cola.
* Why crazy? She’s from the Jackson Family. It’s like guilt by association.

Tyra Banks - Another supermodel and another Pepsi endorsement.
* Why crazy? She dresses up as a man. She feels herself up. Watch her show and she’ll show you she’s crazy.

Regis Philbin – Pitched Pepsi with John Tesh.
* Why crazy? Again, have you watched his show? He’s got a few loose screws.

Lost more than a few marbles
Kanye West – this hip hop all-star has gotten some bling from Pepsi.
* Why crazy? Kanye on Bush. Kanye at the 2007 MTV Awards

Ray Charles – Sang the famous jingle for Diet Pepsi – “You Got the Right One, Baby”
* Why crazy? A fantastic entertainer with a good heart. But the movie “Ray” shows he’s been pretty out there at points in his life…mostly due to drugs.

David Bowie – Worked alongside Tina Turner to endorse Pepsi.
* Why crazy? Rumored to have been caught in bed with a naked Mick Jagger. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. I think Bowie relished his insanity.

Madonna – Her contract with Pepsi was cancelled after just 2 days when her “Like a Prayer” video debuted.
* Why crazy? Pretty much defined the word “crazy” from 1982 to 1997.

Totally off the reservation (aka: Almost time to be fit for a straightjacket)

Gary Glitter
Gary Glitter
Why Crazy? I’m going to let you decide for yourself.

Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne and his family
Why Crazy? Let’s see why is Ozzy crazy? He bit the head of a bird during a concert. He snorted a line of live ants into his nose. He got banned from San Antonio for being caught peeing on the Alamo. Yeah, that should be enough examples. The real question is why Pepsi wanted Ozzy endorsing their product.

Michael Richards
Michael Richards – endorsed Pepsi during his heyday as Kramer on Seinfeld.
Why Crazy? Youtube is our friend on this one…see Michael Richards go crazy.

Mariah Carey endorsing Pepsi
Mariah Carey
Why Crazy? Mariah hasn’t yet done anything publicly that is as crazy as MJ or Britney…but she’s not far behind in the screw’s loose category.

Michael Jackson endorsing Pepsi
Michael Jackson - worked for Pepsi in the 1980’s. Was burned on a Pepsi commercial set in 1984
Why crazy? Once known as the “King of Pop”, now just the “King of Crazy”. Was God trying to warn Michael to quit endorsing Pepsi when he burned him in 1984? Perhaps that wasn’t an accident, but a sign from above.

Britney Spears endorsing Pepsi
Britney Spears – Everyone remembers Britney in those Pepsi commercials during the Superbowl…when she was normal.
Why Crazy? Did Pepsi make Britney go crazy? Or did Pepsi like Britney because they knew she was really crazy? Actually, even through all of her outlandish behavior, I don’t think Britney is crazy. I just think she’s Louisiana white trash. If she were living back in her home state and were not famous, people would consider her normal.

Spice Girls endorsing Pepsi
Spice Girls – Endorsed Pepsi in the UK, and in US for a little bit.
Why Crazy? Okay, I’ll tell you what I want…what I really, really want. Do these girls look sane? With names like Scary Spice, Baby Spice, Posh Spice, and Sporty Spice…Pepsi hit the jackpot. They knew it was only a matter of time until either some or all of them went cuckoo. Hiring the Spice Girls for Pepsi was like shooting fish in a barrel. It was too easy because Pepsi knew the Spice Girls were already half bonkers.

That’s a lot of crazy people. But the question is were they crazy when Pepsi hired them? Or did endorsing Pepsi make them crazy? I certainly think there is compelling evidence that working for Pepsi is going to be have some affect on your mental state. So if I were a “normal” celebrity, I might think twice before endorsing Pepsi.

Maybe “it is the cola”…

Additionally, I saw this article and though maybe there is something to this Pepsi making you crazy idea.

Thanks to Wikipedia for the full list of Pepsi’s celebrity endorsers.

Chelsea FC Coming to America

Posted by Belushi on November 8, 2007

Wait…make that Chelsea FC Has Come to America.

Chelsea FC logo

It started with a four straight years of preseason tours and soccer friendlies in the US. And now Chelsea FC has launched a web site for US fans of the team. The site has club info, player profiles, sells merchandise, offers fan message boards and more. It also has a “member map” so fans of Chelsea in the USA can chart their location.

Chelsea is the first EPL club to launch an officially sanctioned soccer site in the USA. They are becoming the New York Yankees of the EPL.

Coach- you need to sign up to win tickets to a game, during your trip to the UK.
