Take that, Sony!

What was supposed to be a two horse race between Microsoft (X-Box 360) and Sony (Playstation 3) in the video game console market, has turned out to be an upset of monumental proportions.
Nintendo was left for dead just a few years ago, but the new Wii has been a runaway smash. They gambled by not trying to beat Sony and Microsoft at the own game (the bigger the processor, the better the game), and won. The interactive concept has taken game development in a whole new direction, while Microsoft and Sony will have to continue to bash each others heads in in the stale, traditional gaming market of first-person shooters and sports games that change very little from year to year.
Proof of Nintendo’s resurgence came a few weeks ago when they temporarily vaulted into the top 10 most valuable companies in Japan, pushing Sony down to number 11. Sony was back to number 10 by the end of the day, but the message was loud and clear.
